July 26th-27th, 2010 (Arima)

The next two days passed relatively uneventfully. The 26th saw us visiting family in the evening, but beyond that I have no recollection. The 27th passed similarly, with more family visitation, and a few other little outings.

One final night visitor, this time another species of witch moth, Feigeria scops.

A splendid rooster.

At one point we made another trip to the produce market where I finally got a soursop, which I had been wanting to try since long before my visit to Trinidad was even a thought. The fruit was at least as delicious as I had imagined, with a wonderful tart, candy-like flavor. Natalie told me that the soursop is used to make a drink similar to a milkshake and offered to make a sample for me to try. I didn't find the sour fruit flavor to mix well with the milk, but perhaps it's an acquired taste.

My much-anticipated soursop.

This outing also introduced us to Japs Fried Chicken, which was some of the best fried chicken I'd ever had (despite being fast food), and was a place we would revisit once or twice. We also acquired some LLB (Angostura Lemon, Lime & Bitters), a delicious soft drink that I would continue to hunt for after returning home.

A kiskadee making use of a good vantage point.

On another miniature excursion, I was finally able figure out who was making the parrot chatter I'd heard a few times: orange-winged parrots!

The only shot I was able to get, a poorly lit flyby.

While wandering the premises, I photographed another bird behind the house: a house wren. This widespread bird is extremely common in the United States, yet somehow this was my first time photographing one.

The house wren, hopping along a fence.

Another great southern white.

The evening of the 27th saw us preparing for an extremely early morning the following day, but like all things on our trip, any inconvenience was well worth it.
